I’ve worked in clinical research for over 20 years in different diseases. We’ve made so much progress, but there is still so much more to do until we find a cure! In February 2009, I was given the responsibility to be the Multiple Myeloma Project Manager for City of Hope. I have specialized in this particular disease and am passionate about my patients, our multiple myeloma trials, our amazing multiple myeloma disease team at City of Hope and clinical research in general.

Over the years, I’ve seen so many advances in multiple myeloma. I’ve seen firsthand how important research is and the important work that the MMRF/MMRC are doing in advancing and prolonging the lives and quality of life of multiple myeloma patients.

I am taking part of this amazing experience for a few reasons. Most importantly, I would love to raise funds for research, which without we would not be where we are today. I’d like to honor the many multiple myeloma patients here at City of Hope that I have met personally and those that give themselves so selflessly by participating in clinical trials through my 20 years in this field!

I’m hiking to honor ALL cancer survivors, including my own husband, Albert. Cancer hit home in 2015, and his willpower has always been such an inspiration to me. On those long days in the hospital when I just wanted to break, his humor, laughter and positive attitude through it all kept me going. He has been such an inspiration to me and to so many others. He did not allow the word “cancer” to knock him down. He used the word “cancer” to become a better version of himself. He continues to inspire so many around him, including myself and I am SO very proud of him!

Lastly, I am doing this hike for ME! In a lifetime of focusing on everything else, this is MY chance to put a goal out there and complete it. This is my time to work on myself to get myself stronger and healthier, both physically and mentally, to not only complete this hike, but to live a better life moving forward. This is my challenge. This is my dream to complete this journey which truly will be a life-changing experience.
