Name: Jon Katz
Age: 48
Hometown: Los Angeles, Calif.
I am climbing in support of my father, who is a multiple myeloma patient. My father Malcolm was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2008 after months of unexplained back pain. Almost eight years into this journey, my dad’s cancer is well managed by medicine. There have been ups and downs, but we try to stay positive and work towards better treatments and a cure.
My dad has been active in fundraising for myeloma research and started the first multiple myeloma support group in the San Fernando Valley, California five years ago. That group is still functioning and supporting myeloma patients and family members. My father has supported me and our family throughout my life and this is my chance to give something in return. In my regular life, I spend too much time behind my desk and computer practicing law. I am excited to get away from my desk to prepare for and participate in this hike and to raise awareness and much needed research money for the MMRF!
