I have been a multiple myeloma patient since 2013. I am climbing to be part of a team that highlights the importance and achievements of the MMRF and to celebrate my good health.
At the time of my diagnosis, I was 42 years old and the mother of two middle schoolers. I had a lot to learn about this disease that I had never heard of. Fortunately, I have an incredibly supportive husband, family and friends, as well as caring and passionate medical providers. I got through the first year of treatment – including kyphoplasty and a bone marrow transplant – and eventually reached remission. Now, in my fourth year as a multiple myeloma patient, I feel so healthy that I think I could hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back in one day!
I am grateful to be participating in this event with my friend Stacy, a scientist who has been working towards a cure for many cancers including multiple myeloma for years. Stacy has been with me from day one. We are both committed to raising awareness of the amazing contributions the MMRF has made to the progress of multiple myeloma treatment and to raising funds for their mission to find a cure.
